This is a contract position governed by the terms and conditions of the employment agreement.
THIS POSITION IS A PART-TIME POSITION THIS POSITION IS PAYING: $17.00 AN HOUR with a CDL $16.00 AN HOUR without a CDL SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the general supervision of the Superintendent/Social Services, performs routine work of transporting senior citizens and/or disabled passengers within the city; Primary responsibilities include the observation of safety rules, the safety of passengers, and the inspection of the bus/van for proper adherence to rules and regulations; recognizing maintenance needs, collecting revenues, and providing general information to the public.
- Ability to Perform bus inspections and mechanical checks daily to ensure the safety of the passengers before performing scheduled route.
- Ability to conduct visual and physical inspections before and after each route for occurrences such as vandalism and mechanical problems.
- Knowledge of report and record maintenance principles and techniques.
- Ability to assist disabled passengers with attendant devices (i.e., wheelchairs, and walkers).
- Give and receive instructions and apply consistent courtesy and tact in public contact and/or confrontational situations.
- Ability to assist passengers in maneuvering difficult areas, i.e., up and down stairs, in and out of vehicle or doorways.
- Knowledge of the methods and procedures pertaining to the specific duties of a passenger driver.
- Knowledge of procedures, equipment and supplies employed in the transport of passengers.
- Knowledge of local geography and of the location of roads and streets within the municipality.
- Knowledge of the basic operating characteristics and service checks for passenger buses and vans.
- Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and the safety precautions applicable to passenger transportation.
- Knowledge of report and record maintenance principles and techniques.
- Ability to use independent judgment in fairly routine/stable situations.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information.
- Ability to maintain records and account for receipts using prescribed formats.
- Performs related work as required.
Individuals assigned to this classification must report to work per their assigned schedule. Parks and Recreation staff must be willing to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid CDL with passenger (P) endorsement; with minimum of six (6) months experience in operating a bus or heavy automotive equipment with public contact.
- Training and certification in state-mandated education courses, CPR, First Aid, and cash handling, depending on area of assignment, within ninety (90) days of hire or promotion.
Tasks are performed inside and outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain. The position is generally
sedentary. Employees sit most of the time but may walk or stand for brief periods. Tasks may require some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of lightweight objects up to 20 pounds. Tasks may require prolonged periods of visual concentration or keyboard/mouse use.
Requires the ability to speak, hear (perceive sound) and/or signal people to convey and exchange information; differentiate between colors or shades of color; read a variety of materials, at times complex; apply principles of rational problem-solving; record and deliver information, explain procedures, issue and follow oral and written instructions; and communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English as primary language while performing job duties.
