The Role:
We are seeking a full-time Graphic Designer to contribute to various graphic design projects, generate digital content, manage our brand, and format publications. The ideal candidate will have a passion for visual communications and an intuitive eye for design, illustration, and sourcing compelling editorial images and videos. You will play a key role in translating complex data and analysis into engaging visualizations and resources for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.
This is an entry-level, fully remote position that can be performed from anywhere with reliable internet access. Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for the following:
Graphic Design: Collaborate with the Associate Multimedia Coordinator to enhance outreach and user engagement by creating custom designs for social media visuals, infographics, newsletters, and promotional materials. Update existing infographic templates weekly and work with the Web Manager to ensure design and branding consistency across all content. Assist the Research and Analysis teams with data visualization projects, including designing templates for collaborative visual storytelling.
Publications: Facilitate the layout and design of analysis reports and rapid response outputs. Develop new, eye-catching templates for reports, guides, internal policies, and other written materials as needed, updating existing templates weekly.
Brand Management, Marketing, and Outreach: Help implement our branding strategy by ensuring adherence to branding guidelines for all creative and written content. Support outreach efforts with clients and donors by designing and producing brochures, welcome packets, reports, proposals, and other resources as required.
Digital Library Management: Organize and maintain our digital asset repository in Google Photos and Google Drive, and provide photos or materials to team members upon request.
Administrative Support: Offer general administrative support to the Head of Communications and Communications Coordinator as needed, as well as occasional assistance to other departments.
Skills and Competencies:
To thrive in this role, we seek candidates with the following skills and experience:
A Bachelor's degree in visual communications, graphic design, journalism, or a related field; or a degree in social sciences or humanities if self-taught in graphic design (essential).
Experience with data and qualitative/quantitative research (preferred).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English (essential), with additional languages like French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Spanish being a plus (preferred).
3-5 years of experience with Adobe Suite programs (essential), including InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Acrobat, and Photoshop.
Proven experience in visual storytelling, data visualizations, motion graphics, and creating high-quality materials for print and online communication.
Familiarity with social media platforms and creating engaging digital assets for Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and others.
Detail-oriented, ensuring all work is accurate and of high quality.
Proficiency or working knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Flourish, Moqups, or QGIS (advantageous).
Experience in creating animations or illustrations for educational content (advantageous).
Skills in audiovisual production and editing (advantageous).
Experience with brand management and adapting content for various audiences.
Previous work with nonprofits or in the research sector focused on peacebuilding, conflict, human rights, or foreign affairs (advantageous).
Ability to multitask, collaborate across departments, and work remotely with limited supervision (essential).
Strong initiative and creativity in amplifying data and analysis.
Good judgment, organizational skills, and attention to detail; familiarity with Asana or willingness to learn.
Capability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively about project status.
Ability to monitor trends and performance on social media for opportunities to improve or launch campaigns.
A willingness to seek and implement feedback, as well as provide constructive feedback to others.
A passion for strategic communications, experimenting with new designs, and eagerness to learn new platforms and tools.
